The "Vintage Purge" is about to begin. Vintage Clothing is NOT aHalloween Costume.

It's coming up on that time of year. The vintage "purge" is to begin. I was taking a small break from my hard, hard life as a housewife this afternoon. (insert sarcasm there)

I was quickly browsing ebay for some vintage frocks and noticed in many of the titles "Halloween Costume". GASP!! Oh how I hate to see a beautiful piece of history to be thrown away after one night of wearing it. These wonderful pieces of vintage clothing have made it over 40 years and in one night are ruined and thrown out the next day. Granted some of the vintage clothing is already damaged and this is a good use for it. Still

I have been a seller of vintage clothing for over 14 years now. I have experienced people purchasing my items for just that very purpose. Message's like "Can you get this to me by Halloween?" or "Do you have a shirt for my boyfriend in this size? We are having a Halloween party."

I think the late 1960's to 70's clothing take the biggest hit with the "Flower Power" ensemble. The 1950's and early 1960's are close behind with shows like Mad Men being a big hit.

Here's a really scary thought. What if shows like Bomb Girls and Manhattan send shoppers hunting for 1940's dresses? Those unsympathetic Halloween shoppers.  Thank goodness for the 1980's does 40's clothing that still in great quantity on ebay and thrift stores. Yes, 80's clothing is vintage and pretty neat, but I can stomach 1980's clothing being used for a costume. Talk to me in 10 years about that one.

This is NOT..(Hey that's me wearing an item from my store) :)
Update: SOLD

  1. I completely understand what you mean here! And it's not just Halloween it seems anymore! TV shows and movies spring up all sorts of themed parties. In working at a vintage shop I can't tell you how many girls come in wanting 20s dresses for a Gatsby party, thinking they can find them just anywhere and for a mere $50!

    1. Glad to see someone else with my view. I love Halloween. When it comes to my shop. I can't wait until Nov 1st for it to be over. :)
