1950's Vintage Apple Dump Cake Recipe

I am all for simple..simple recipes that is. Dump cakes became popular during the 1950's. It truly amazes me how the women of the 1950's would come up with these wonderful ideas. After World War II boxed cake mixes became available to the delight of housewives everywhere as well as canned food.
Dump cakes are simply 2 or 3 ingredients. I am sharing this wonderful Apple Dump Cake recipe. My husband and children love it. I serve it warm with vanilla ice cream. PLUS..there is very little mess to clean up as well. No mixing bowl. I can live with that.

Outfit of the Day and A Favorite 1950's Chair

My outfit of the day. It's a beautiful late Summer day here and thought I would capture the wonderful lighting in my living room . Here I am sitting on my favorite thrift store find my 1950's atomic chair. It has little lightning bolts all over the fabric and of course the perfect teal color as well. I made the amoeba pillow cover. The fabric is part of the Mad Mod collection by Ragnar. It is out of print but can still be found on ebay or etsy. In the background is a clock and pole lamp I won at an auction. All three pieces together cost less than $20. Woohoo!

Window Shopping Night - My 1950's Etsy Kitchen Favorites under $20

It's Window Shopping Night - My Etsy Kitchen favorites from the 1950's.

WAHM's of the 1950's - Work At Home Mom's the 1950's Way.

Recently my 9 year old daughter asked me if I "worked". I happily told her "Yes, I do". I am responsible for all the up keep of the home, as well as her laundry, meals, shopping and cleaning and much more. So yes, it's work. She then reminded me that I have sold on Ebay and Etsy for a long time. Yes, I've been selling "stuff" online for a long time, but mainly vintage. It's been almost 15 years since I started on Ebay way back when. I remember Etsy when it first started and had only a few hundred shops. I have actually not ever really considered myself a WAHM, A.K.A work at home mom who actually earns income. It was just something I did, or do. In my former marriage there was not a lot of financial stability and that just became something I did to make ends meet. To pay a bill, to buy kids clothing, ect. However small or large, many women who are SAHM's go on to actually earn income and are WAHM's as well. Like myself. Maybe we should be called "SWAHM's".

10 Things You Might Not Know About Me.

I've been writing on my blog for a couple of years now and thought I would give a little more info about myself to my visitors. I love blogging. I recently set up a small office space of my own to dedicate more time to it. Here it goes:

My New Daily Cleaning Schedule and Wishing I Cleaned Like June Cleaver.

I have recently been having a tough time with organization. I have a lot of projects I take on and it has me somewhat overwhelmed. Some projects include making a small office for myself to dedicate more time to blogging. Other projects include making retro valances and re-decorating our living room, which I will be blogging about soon. There's also the upstairs to contend with. That's where the children reside. It's Summer vacation and the upstairs look's like the tornado from the Wizard of Oz, hit it. We aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto.

The Vintage 1950's Housewife Wardrobe. 10 Essential Pieces.

Dressing vintage is fun and unique. I am a former vintage clothing and accessory seller. I started selling in 2001 when it wasn't "cool", I sold items from the 1940's to 1980's. My sales came from vintage buyers from all over the world. I have shipped vintage sweaters, knick knacks, magazines, books, boots, shoes, and fur coats. You name it, I have probably had it in my store at one time or another.

1950's Housewives. Keep your feminine "Daintiness" by douching with Lysol Disinfectant. Oh, MY?!

Today is June 1, how exciting. Summertime is almost here and the weather has allowed me to take out my pretty summer frocks. More exciting news today. I received my much awaited June 1951, issue of Household Magazine. It was a fair price at 15 cents but it isn't as affordable as the lovely Women's Day magazines I frequently read. Woman's Day is priced at just 5 cents. I'm so glad my husband works hard so we can afford such extras. He say's "Happy Wife, Happy Life." Wink.

I'll Take That Compliment, Thank You!

We had a wonderful day. Perfect weather for Memorial Day. We attended the local parade. It was short, but we were able to see the veterans. I received a nice compliment from a lady in the crowd. She said that she loved the classic look. I usually receive compliments from women when I am out and about. I believe this day in age women do not compliment each other at all. I believe my attire somehow makes other women at ease and thus opens a line of communication. I rarely go out without having a compliment thrown my way from another gal. I think it's wonderful when we can stop and talk as strangers like that. I want to think it's like back in the day when you could borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor.

The 1950's Housewife Cleaning Products vs. Modern Cleaning Products

My husband is off to work and our 3 children are off to school. I updated my Vintage Closet page here on the blog. Dishes are done and laundry is washing and drying. Yes, I have a dish washer and modern appliances of course. I am on the look out for a vintage refrigerator..specifically a pink one.

I DID hand wash pots and pans this morning with Dawn dish soap. It got me wondering what cleaning products I am using today that my mother did in the 1950's. I've done a little research and here is what I've found with the products I have on hand. I love the 1950's packaging and may start my collection.

Favorite Modern Movies with Housewives Set in the 1950's

I love finding a modern movie based around (housewives) in the 1950's. I sit and watch for background and wardrobe "correctness". Sometimes a see something like a chair or mid century decoration I NEED. I found a great movie this week on Netflix and decided to compile a list for reference. Maybe I will just binge watch all of these on a lazy, rainy day. All of these movies can be found on Half.com.
